BAKLE 2025 Conference at the University of Lancashire

The inaugural British Association of Korean Language Education (BAKLE) conference was successfully held at the University of Lancashire in Preston on 18th to 19th September 2025. Over the two days, around 60 people attended from across the UK and around the world under the theme of Advancing Korean Language Education: Innovation, Inclusion and Collaboration. The conference brought together colleagues working in Korean language education and Korean Studies to share research, classroom practice and programme development. Sessions covered topics such as innovative pedagogy, curriculum and assessment design, digital learning and inclusive teaching, alongside a keynote lecture by Professor Jaehoon Yeon (SOAS, University of London). This conference set the foundation of BAKLE’s goals(mission?) to advance Korean language education within and beyond the UK, fostering national and international collaboration and promoting the learning of Korean language and culture. To capitalise on that, the organisation committee is currently working to digitally achieve the proceedings and publish a book of selected essays from the conference.
